Andrew Galbraith is an MSW LCSW, and is currently an advanced Ph.D (ABD) candidate at the Institute of Clinical Social Work: Psychodynamic Graduate Studies, in Chicago, Illnois. He has spent 13 years providing comprehensive, professional, and in-depth psychoanalytic treatment in Northern New York, and is presently practicing in Potsdam, NY in a psychoanalytic private practice.

In Lacanian psychoanalysis, the procoess entails putting words to experiences that have led to specific sufferings, patterns, and distress as it relates to the present context of life. It is also, as Freud states, a place where one is able to get "inaccordance with their complexes", through the uncovering of how they relate to desire. My approach faciltates the concious recogition of these elements
The focus in this practice involves moving beyond arbitrary labels found in clinical psychology that demarcate what is considered 'normal' and 'abnormal'.This process begins with the premise the psychological suffering is not simply a matter of one's behavior or thoughts, rather symptoms occuring at that this level relate to internal conflicts rooted in the person's experience that are central to who that person is.
Therefore all those who have been designated by a medical or psychological labels indicative of a depressive disorder, anxiety or panic challenges, eating disorders, psychosis, personality disorders, neuro-divergent categories, substance abuse, attention-related challenges, complusive related challenges, and trauma disorder or otherwise not listed, are welcomed to examine if this process might work for them.
Marital Distress, Grief and Loss, Professional Challenges, General Relational Patterns leading to Interpersonal Conflict, Parental Issues and Concerns, Family Conflict
My practice approaches these conflicts by helping the patient articulate their true subjective position in areas such as (but not limited too) work, family, career, and educational goals. The patient's position is respected and held to the highest regard despite the conflicts it may generate, and my role is to help the patient articulate and clarify what elements matter most to them to help them. This helps address suffering or barriers by developing a sense of clarity rooted in the patient's specific ethical position (What Lacan defines as 'Desire') thus resolving internal conflicts relating to important personal matters..
Existential Concerns and specific challenges to feeling included within the world.
Those who are struggling with basic components of identity such as gender identifications, cultural associations, professional standing or other existential factors related to their relationship to the world and their place within it are welcomed to openly explore these conflicts in this process. This process provides the patient with a greater degree of personal agency while navigating dynamics with people and institutions central to their specific social milieu.

My practice is a confidential, convenient, respectful, and productive clinical setting where your experience is the complete focus of the work.
In Lacanian psychoanalysis, the focus is truly about resolving internal conflicts in order to move past painful barriers or challenges that continue to prevent living one's life on one's own terms. It is not about classifiyng behavior or symptoms that appeal to a sense of 'health' that neglects the subjective factors at play. Those who wish to examine there experiences beyond the limitations of these labels, and are interested in how their specific distress relates to their experience and personal history are welcomed, regardless of any 'diagnosis' given in other treatment contexts.
